I love Pandas so I decided to write a report about them :
The Panda
This peaceful creature with a magnificent black and white coat is adored by all of the world and is considered one of China’s most fascinating treasures.Severe threats from humans have left just over 1,800 pandas in the wild.
Food
You would possibly think pandas eat so many different types of food but unlike other animals pandas that live in the wild only eat (99%) bamboo and a small amount of grass.The ones that live in zoos also eat bamboo but they eat sugar cane, carrots, apples and sweet potatoes as well.They eat up to 20 - 40 pounds of bamboo a day and spend 16 hours a day finding and eating food.
Survival
Pandas only have a few predators including jackals, snow leopards are some of the few that can kill and eat panda cubs.These creatures are peaceful animals and will not usually fight back, unless an escape is impossible, they will fight back.As cuddly as they may look, pandas can protect themselves as well as most other bears by using their physical strength, and powerful jaws and teeth.They can also swim and, unlike most other bears, do not hibernate for months at time during winter.
Size/Appearance
We all know that the pandas coat is black and white but did you know adult pandas are about 150 cm from nose to rump, with a 10-15cm tail. And they can grow up to 90cm tall at the shoulder.A newborn baby is the size of a stick of butter.
The biggest threats to pandas are everyday human actions. Predators might take the odd cub but humans are the greatest threat to pandas.An adult panda can weigh up to 150kg.While its numbers are slowly increasing, the giant panda remains one of the rarest and most endangered bears in the world.
